Presscon & Opening Ceremonies
When we got there, we found out that KP was closing the Opening Ceremonies! In Randy's words, "That's Harsh!" - so now begins the mad scramble for changes....Variations A instead of Rural, we'll do Rural instead of Mountain, Mountain instead of Spanish...or something like that..argh! Stop the insanity!

Celine and I were billeted together, and it was nice to be able to catch up on...well, just life! Every morning, without fail, we would wake up and the first thing we do is go 'ok, what's today? Muslim A? So that's Intro, Malong, Pangalay, Singkil. We'd eat breakfast, and as we are sitting there, we'd go 'Ok, so what's the order again?'....one of the many random memories of this trip!

Lier
We had the morning free, so our host dad Paul took us to Lier, a town about 20 minutes away. It was so picturesque, it reminded me of Bath (in the UK). Celine said it reminded her of Amsterdam. I had my first - and only - Belgian waffle....but not the light and fluffy kind, the sugar/syrup filled I-feel-gross-to-the-pit-of-my-stomach kind....first bite was amazing, but next few....oh my.... we also tried this "world-famous-only-from-Lier" cookies called "'Lierse Vlaaikens" - really, not sure what all the hype was about, it tasted like a fig newton....but at least we tried it! =)

Presscon & Opening Ceremonies
That evening, we had our press conference (Malong & Kadal...wait, was it Kadal? holy crap, I'm losing it already!), ah well whatever it was, we rocked it! Especially of course, our Malong whores...lol. Later that evening we were able to get our first glimpse of the other performers on stage, it was all starting to feel a bit surreal...we're in Belgium...at a festival!!!! Every other group had an accordian and were all doing happy-happy pieces for the opening ceremonies....and what was KP doing? Ah, not much, just going to plant some rice then kill a hawk. LOL. Needless to say when Banog came on, they never knew what hit them, and I think they were impressed. What mattered most is that we were impressed with ourselves, it was a great performance.

That night was the start of a lot of Kriek nights....

What a great opening day. Tomorrow - Spanish for the seniors then LA NOCHE, baby....
