| Antwerp & Closing Ceremonies |
Because this evening was the closing ceremonies, we had the whole day free, and the group of us decided to meet in the morning and all travel to Antwerp by bus (about 30 minutes by bus).
 (l -At Centraal Station; r- Leonidas...mmm.....)
Needless to say, many of the gals went a little buck wild at H&M....and the next H&M...and then the NEXT H&M....there were about 4 within a 2 block radius!!!
We got home in the afternoon, just in time for a yummy dinner of Mussels by our host family! We also mastered the art of EATING mussels too! Then it was off to perform our final performance - Muslim A - for the closing ceremonies.
Closing Ceremonies As we were all getting ready for our last performance in Edegem, there was definitely an aura of excitement, mixed with sadness that it was all going to be over soon. For me, this was probably the last time I would be playing Kulintang for princess. It was probably one of the last times Michelle was going to be princess. It's odd how we look back at memories and can't believe how it 'dates' us - that night, we came to this realization that this was the last time we would be doing Singkil together. Every time Michelle has been princess, I have always played for her. ALWAYS! Has it really been that long?!?! (This was one of the 'I wish Tina were here' moments). Alexa's (aka Gongtress') green room prayer was exactly what we needed to just BRING it tonight.
Bring it we did. After Singkil was over - musicians paused for about 20 seconds before starting our Bis/Encore (Vinta). During this pause, the crowd kept on clapping to a beat. It was surreal. They wouldn't stop. Even when Alexa started gonging, it took them a while to stop. When all was said and done...we did our final bow. Bob the Emcee even gave a special farewell speech for Kathy, omg, IYAK NATION! Then when we got to the green room, MORE IYAK NATION! This is what all the hard work came down to, and it was all totally worth it.
Pics from the Closing Ceremonies (even Isabel came on stage!)
After all was said and done - I think I speak for the company when I say we had never felt more proud to be Filipino, and proud to showcase our culture. Then again, that's the reason we are a part of this group, isn't it? |
